Need a good laugh? You don't need a punchline.what is laughter yoga?
Laughter (Haysa) Yoga is an ancient, new concept -- giving you the ability to laugh yourself to health. Through Yogic Laughter sessions, Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation), pranayama (yogic breathing practices) and meditation we can reach profound levels of renewed energy and relaxation. Laughter Yoga is not classical yoga. There are no postures to master. You don't need to be in great shape to practice laughter yoga. If you can laugh, you'll be able to participate! Laughter Yoga does not rely on humor or jokes, but enables anyone to laugh for at nothing, for no reason. We're using our laughter to deliberately bring emotional healing and and many physical health benefits to our day-to-day living. Laughter Yoga has been suggested to help in almost any recovery. "Laughter yoga combines laughter with yogic breathing exercises. It is a perfect way to laugh and get exercise at the same time. It approaches laughter as a body exercise, so it is easy to laugh even if you are depressed or in a bad mood. Last year I highlighted laughter yoga on my TV program. I have tried it, and it works." --Oprah Winfrey, January, 2008, AustraliaThe Laughter Yoga Experience
A laughter session is a group of people gathering to practice laughter as a form of exercise. You don't need to feel good first, to be happy or even to have a sense of humor. We don't use jokes or comedy. Intentional laughing improves your mood, and then you do feel good. Laughter sessions begin with brief socializing and discussion about laughter. The group does easy warm-up stretches, yogic breathing, laughter games, ending with deep, silent meditation.
A Laughter Game Most sessions cost $5/pp. Special workshops and events vary in price. Children over age 11 are welcome to join the session. At the end of the session, parents please play with children apart from silent meditators. "I feel really relaxed and exercised," she said.
