Laugh and be Transformed

No more waiting on the world to change

Statistics show we walk 30% faster than we did just 5 years ago. I think we also live 30% faster, which exponentially increases our stress. If we don't experience enough personal stress, just look around you. Wars, natural disasters, school shootings... In Target I overheard someone ask, "When is something good going to happen?"

Laughter Yoga steps completely outside of waiting for something good to happen before we can laugh, which makes the practice very powerful for personal change. Laughter Yoga puts us intensely in the moment. It doesn't rely on a reason or comedy as a forerunner.

The more we can laugh at something, the more it loses it's power to intimidate and overwhelm us. We can laugh at anything, at any time, and for no reason whatsoever. The more we laugh at nothing, the more we can laugh despite everything. That's the magic of Laughter Yoga. Ha!

Breaking Through to the Other Side

During the first laughter meditation at Laughter Yoga Leader training, I wept at first instead of laughing. Weeping is not as transformative for me as it may be for some folks. But I was able to push out the sadness by laughing as hard as I could. Being able to laugh through my sadness was my transformation - discovering the tool (not emotion) of laughter that erodes away stress and sorrow.

Weeping and laughing are two sides of the same coin - so neither are "right" or "wrong" in Laughter Yoga classes. Self-generated joy has a way of discovering places of stress and pain. Joy confronts those places with healing. Some people weep during laughter meditations and are surprised by how transformative the practice of Laughter Yoga can be. Getting back to You

Yoga, in general, in an ancient science of transformation and enlightenment. It's teaching is based on the idea that we are here on Earth to enjoy life. But most of us have forgotten that, and forgotten who we are in our deepest core of being. When you practice laughing for no reason, you eventually find your "original laugh" emerging from the deepest part of you. That's when you remember who you are - your "true self".

Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) is a direct approach, a "direct pointing" to our true selves. It's a Yoga practice with immediate results. Within 30 seconds of practicing laughing as conscious and purposeful meditation, our brain chemicals begin to change, bringing feelings of peace, confidence and happier-ness.
